Why this matters

Every event organiser knows the pain of bottlenecks at mealtimes. 10,000 visitors, all hungry, all at once — the maths matters. Our Food Flow Calculator models three scenarios:

  • QR-only: pre-order + in-service QR ordering
  • Mixed: QR pickup + in-person ordering & payment
  • Counter-only: traditional queue, order, pay

This page lets you explore the trade-offs and see instantly how many merchants, lanes, and staff are needed to avoid queues.

The model behind the numbers

  • Visitors: Default 10,000 visitors to be served in a 3-hour window
  • Service slots: Demand smoothed into 5-minute slots (adjustable)
  • Production rates: Merchants can prepare 170–200 meals/hour (adjustable)
  • Pickup time: 12 seconds per QR handover (~300/h per lane)
  • Cashier time: 55 seconds per order (~70/h per lane)
  • Queues form when either production or service lanes can’t keep up with demand/hour
